Country Music superstar Jason Aldean slapped down the Biden Campaign when they asked for permission to use his hit song “Fly Over States” for the president’s reelection campaign.
Aldean made the revelation during a recent concert. While the “Dirt Road Anthem” and “Try That In A Small Town” star did not specify the context of the request, he did tell fans that a request to use “Fly Over States” was made in 2020.
“And I very politely said… f**k no,” Aldean said in response to the request, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Aldean has frequently voiced his support for former President Donald Trump in recent years. His views have also gotten him in trouble with the far-left, namely last summer when he released the Country chart-topping single “Try That In A Small Town.”
The song’s music video featured images of violent riots in 2020 that targeted small businesses and landmarks. “Try that in a small town, see how far you make it down the road,” read the lyrics.
Left-wing activists and media outlets soon branded the song as a “white supremacist anthem” and “pro-lynching” song, pointing to an obscure detail about the video’s filming location. A sustained pressure campaign led to the song’s removal from a number of local radio stations, as well as the CMT video rotation.
Despite the campaign to suppress the song, it managed to scale its way to the top of country charts last summer. The song also reached the U.S. top 50 on Spotify and Apple Music and managed to claim the top spot on iTunes overall for a number of weeks.
