The Republican National Committee announced Friday that they will be bringing in GOP activist Scott Pressler to assist with ballot harvesting.
In recent years, Pressler has worked to register voters around the clock. He frequently travels to battleground states in order to bring in new voters, train activists and host workshops geared towards educating Republicans about the emergence of mail-in voting.
On Friday, newly elected RNC co-chair Lara Trump, Pressler will be brought in to lead the organization’s legal ballot harvesting operations ahead of the 2024 election.
“We also have to start thinking about things like legal ballot harvesting, something we’ve never embraced as a party,” Trump told conservative commentator Benny Johnson. “We’re going to start doing it now. I’m going to have a call very soon with Scott Presler, who is an amazing vote registerer. He has registered so many people in this country.”
“I think he’s fantastic. I want him on our legal ballot harvesting division,” she added.
While campaigning for her role at the RNC, Trump stressed the importance of expanding legal ballot harvesting operations in order to keep pace with Democrats. Her strategy will also include trained poll watchers in every polling place, the formation of an election integrity division, and hiring a team of lawyers to assist with challenges when they arise.
“These are not just poll watchers, people who physically stand in a polling location and kind of look around and maybe might be able to see something. These are people, Benny, who get to handle a ballot, who can count the ballots coming in and the ballots going out, so they know what the numbers should be at the end of the day,” Trump said. “On top of that, we are also hiring and we are asking for volunteer attorneys all across this country. We want you in a polling location near you every single minute that there is voting going on, because we want to be able to address a problem immediately in real time.”
After Trump and co-chair Michael Whatley were unanimously elected last Friday, the RNC posted its best digital fundraising weekend since the 2020 election.
