Neocon Strange Bedfellow: Rashida Tlaib Pushes for Regime Change in Syria – Trump News Today

On February 15, 2024, Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib went on the House floor to push for the Justice for Syrians Resolution, which she introduced alongside Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar back in July 13, 2013. This resolution would ostensibly hold Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad accountable for his alleged war crimes committed throughout the Syrian Civil that kicked off in 2011.

Tlaib posted the following on X on February 15:

Over 600,000 Syrians have been killed. I introduced the Justice for Syrians Resolution to push for the U.N. to finally hold war criminal Assad accountable for his crimes against humanity at an Ad Hoc international court of law. We must demand justice for the Syrian people.

This resolution would instruct the US Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) to use the vote and great power clout of the United States to set up an international justice tool to hold Syrian strongman Assad to account for war crimes and other crimes against humanity that he allegedly committed.

Dan Cohen, an independent journalist based in Palestine, instantly criticized Tlaib’s anti-Assad pronouncement. In an X post that he published on February 16, Cohen declared:

Rashida Tlaib is objectively allied with Israel, which regularly bombs Syria, and is currently carrying out a heinous genocide against her fellow Palestinians. Syria is also a key figure in the counter-hegemonic array of forces in the region that can militarily challenge Israel.

This is neocon policy in progressive garb. Tlaib is a cog in the permanent war machine.

Such sentiments by the Squad are nothing new. As BLP previously reported, Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar expressed her support for Syrian rebels’ efforts to overthrow the Syrian government. She tweeted, “The people of Syria revolted against Assad’s repressive dictatorship 8 years ago today, demanding a more just and free government. Peace loving people around the world stand in solidarity with them in this struggle!”

In effect, Omar and Tlaib are co-signing the American-Zionist axis’s agenda of attempting regime change against Syria. The fact is that Syria, owing to its partnership with the likes of Iran, has become a strong opponent of Israel over the last few decades. The growing influence of Hezbollah and other pro-Iranian proxy militias in Syria has worried the Israelis.

As a result, they have worked with the US to try to topple the Assad regime in order to either put in a more friendly government or render the Syrian state so dysfunctional that it can’t be able to pose a threat to the Jewish state.

None of this should be of the US’s concern because the Middle East is no longer strategically useful for it. It ultimately needs to pull out of the region and stop sanctioning countries there.
