New York Elected Official Puts Forward Legislation to Force Chick-fil-A To Open On Sundays – Trump News Today

New York Assemblyman Tony Simone recently put forward legislation that would mandate fast food restaurants at rest stops to serve customers on all days of the week. The proposed bill does not ostensibly single out Chick-fil-A specifically but would have a major impact on the company, which has nine restaurants at rest stops across the Empire State.

Should this legislation be passed, Simone’s bill would force Chick-fil-A to keep its rest stop restaurants open on Sundays or close them. The elected official said the change would ensure that individuals driving throughout New York during the weekend can find a place to eat and rest.

Per Chick-fil-A’s company policy, all of its stores nationwide are closed on Sundays.  Newsweek was able to get in contact with a Chick-fil-A spokesperson. The spokesperson said the following to Newsweek: “The legislation is needed because Sundays are a very high volume travel day for New Yorkers, and rest stops are intended to provide services for travelers.”

“It makes no sense for rest areas to rely on a company that by policy is closed on such a busy travel day,” the spokesperson added. “Unfortunately, the current contract would not be impacted, but the bill would require any future contracts negotiated by the Thruway Authority to include a provision that restaurants are open seven days a week.”

In a post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Simone stated: “It makes no sense for restaurants at rest stops to be closed on one of the busiest travel days of the week, but Chick-fil-A has been allowed to limit their service to travelers in their contract with the NYS Thruway Authority. My bill with (Democratic Senator) Michelle Hinchey will change that.”

Indeed, Simone’s legislation represents an assault on the private property rights of a lawfully-operating business. Chick-fil-A has every right to run its business affairs as it sees fit. Moreover, this legislative attempt is a direct affront against a Christian company’s unique corporate policy.

Unlike other souless corporations, Chick-fil-A believes that workers and management deserve a day to rest and worship. For neoliberal multiculturalists, this is an unacceptable arrangement. That’s why they want to use state power to disrupt the practices of traditional corporations.
