A shocking new poll found that roughly 20 percent of Generation Z Americans have a positive view of Osama bin Laden.
The poll, which was conducted by the J.L Partners in conjunction with the Daily Mail, found that one in five Americans between the ages of 18 and 29 hold of a positive view of the terrorist leader. Additionally, the poll found that three in ten members of Generation Z believe bin Laden’s terror campaigns amounted to a “force for good.”
Overall, 81 percent of respondents indicated a negative view of bin Laden, who was killed in a raid by U.S. Navy Seals in 2011. Just one in ten overall respondents expressed a positive view.
14 percent said the terrorist leader had some ‘” some good in terms of either his views, actions or both” while 70 percent said both his views and actions were bad.
Among black voters, almost one in five (18 percent) expressed positive views of the Saudi warlord.
It is believed that a recent TikTok trend that spotlights a letter written by bin Laden 20 years ago could be contributing to the shocking results. The piece, titled “Letter to America,” was written one year after the September 11 attacks and managed to garner sympathy from many younger TikTok users.
Overwhelming outrage over the trend caused TikTok to step in and remove the letter from the platform, however.
J.L. Partners founder James Johnson, who conducted the poll of roughly 1,000 Americans, expressed disgust with the results.
“Family members of families of the victims spoke to the day amount about this poll, and they talked about their anger and frustration and disgust at this viewpoint,” Johnson said. “All I can say is I sympathize entirely with them, and I completely share their disgust.”
