In a revealing conversation with Michael Malice, Meghan McCain, the former co-host of “The View,” delved into her experiences on the show, her evolving political views, and the current state of American media and politics.
McCain discussed the dynamics of her role on the show, where She likened her position to a “heel” in pro wrestling – often positioned as the antagonist to spark debate. “And the best heels were the ones who the audience really, really hated,” McCain said on being the ‘bad guy.’
“And it really seems to me that your role on ‘The View’ was to be the bad guy, that you were there to be kind of an object of derision and to get what the term in wrestling is heat, that the more drama there is, the better it is for the show,” Malice said.

When discussing The View’s topic selection, McCain explained, “So obviously, anything that makes Democrats look bad is never chosen. And I have to go in every morning being like, hey, you know, whatever news story that makes Biden look bad is the number one news story of the day. And there would be a fight over whether or not it should even be aired because the host didn’t agree on it.”
McCain also criticized the media landscape, particularly the left-leaning media’s portrayal of conservative voices. She expressed her frustration over the media’s tendency to perpetuate a singular narrative, neglecting conservative perspectives and highlighted the difficulties she faced in raising issues that reflected poorly on Democrats.
“And the thing about ‘The View’ is that I didn’t know when I signed my contract with ABC that this is forever. That for the rest of my life, I’m going to be like: bullied and yelled at and abused and brought up years. I haven’t been on that show in years. And I, as you know, I’m just trying to live my life, host my own new podcast.”
McCain joined ‘The View’ as a co-host in October 2017. Known for its panel of women discussing a variety of topics ranging from politics to social issues, the show often featured lively debates and discussions among its co-hosts.
