Former Colorado State Representative and Senator Ted Harvey has announced a bid to replace U.S. Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO), who is retiring at the end of his term.

Buck, who was first elected to represent Colorado’s Fourth Congressional District in 2014, has become an outspoken critic of former President Trump and his supporters. Despite being a member of the House Freedom Caucus, Buck has parroted left-wing talking points on the January 6 Capitol protests and has repeatedly stating that accepting the results of the 2020 election should be a top priority for the party.

Buck ultimately announced his retirement from Congress last month during an appearance on MSNBC.

According to the Cook Partisan Voting index, Colorado’s Fourth Congressional District is currently rated as Republican +13.

On Thursday, Harvey formally announced his bid to replace Buck, becoming the sixth Republican to do so. “With the devastating moral and economic decay from government all around us and no credible, proven, or experienced conservative fighter willing to run for this critical seat, I’m running to make sure ‘We the People’ have a leader who will fight for us and stop the corrupted establishment insiders in both parties who are hell bent on destroying our Republic,” said the former legislator in his announcement.

Harvey, who most recently chaired a Pro-Trump Super PAC, slammed the rise of “say anything” Republicans who deviate from the agenda they ran on once arriving in Washington.

“Like Trump, I have the battle scars and a proven conservative record so that voters will never question if I will keep fighting for our conservative, limited-government values against the corruption in BOTH parties,” Harvey’s campaign announcement continued. “I have never succumbed to the pressure of party leadership in my defense of what We The People want, nor have I ever sold out to wealthy establishment insiders. I never will.”

Harvey’s announcement follows that of another former Colorado State Representative, Jerry Sonnenberg, who announced his candidacy earlier this week. “Rural Coloradans and hardworking families all across the district need a voice in Washington who understands our community, our principled conservative values, our way of life, and our unique challenges,” said Sonnenberg, a former rancher who served in the Colorado legislature for 16 years.

Other Republican candidates include Colorado State Rep. Richard Holtorf, former talk radio host Deborah Flora and Weld County Council member Trent Leisy. Democrats Isaac McCorkle, John Padora and Karen Breslin are also running to replace Buck, though the district that has elected a Democrat just once in the last 50 years.
