Shortly before the San Francisco 49ers took the field on Thanksgiving Day against the Seattle Seahawks, sharp-eyed fans may have seen star running back Christian McCaffrey take to his knees in prayer in the end zone.
Culpo shared a video Instagram followers on Thursday showing McCaffrey taking a moment to pause, clear his mind and speak to God before he rushed for 119 yards on 19 carries.

While such an earnest moment of faith is often its own reward, McCaffrey and his teammates enjoyed a delicious helping of Thanksgiving turkey after the game which the 49ers shared via X.

“That was awesome,” McCaffrey said, per ESPN. “It was actually really good turkey, too. I have no idea how they kept all of the dishes hot . . . but the turkey was really good, well cooked. It wasn’t dry at all, and like I said, still hot, which was impressive for being 20 minutes after the game.”
McCaffrey’s public displays of his Christian faith aren’t a new feature to his sportsmanship either. He notably told the San Francisco Chronicle in October,
“My faith is very important to me and that’s why I’m praying all the time. When you have a bunch of people chanting your name, it’s important that you give the honor and glory back to the person, God, that’s allowing me to do this.”
As the Sports Spectrum observed, the 49ers acquired McCaffrey from the Carolina Panthers last year in a campaign to boost their Super Bowl chances adding another dynamic offensive asset to their roster. The Spectrum noted that Quarterback Brock Purdy and McCaffrey bonded quickly over their shared faith in God.
“I didn’t know what to expect going into a professional locker room, who’s a believer, who’s not or any of that stuff,” Purdy told Sports Spectrum.
“And I was very fortunate and blessed to have guys like Charlie Woerner, Christian McCaffrey, pastor Earl Smith, Oren Burks, these guys that are just solid believers. We’d meet before road games and just have our little Bible studies. But the biggest thing for me was, man, having fellowship. You’re in a crazy business, you’re on the road, you’re going to different places. But to have guys that believe in the Lord and can help you and pour into you with their experiences and everything, I found that huge.”
In a post to Instagram, the Running Back shared Philippians 4:6 writing, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
